Alvarado selected as inaugural fellow for Kopenhaver Center
Glenda Alvarado, assistant professor of advertising, was selected
as an inaugural Kopenhaver Center Fellow at the 2013 Association
for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) convention
in Washington, DC, Aug. 7. Kopenhaver Center Fellows were selected
through an application process that included the more than 1000 AEJMC
member institutions, with Alvarado chosen from more than 40 applications.
The Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women
at Florida International University sponsored its inaugural workshop
for 24 Center Fellows at AEJMC. The workshop program was planned
in collaboration with the AEJMC's Commission on the Status of Women.
It included topics around "Climbing the Ladder: Mentors, Money
and Upward Mobility for Junior Faculty Members."
The Kopenhaver Center's mission is to empower women scholars and
professionals in the field of communications in order to develop
visionaries in both the academy and the industry who will become
leaders in society and make a difference in their communities.
