Glenda AlvaradoDr. Glenda Alvarado, assistant professor of advertising, was selected as an inaugural Kopenhaver Center Fellow at the 2013 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) convention in Washington, DC, Aug. 7. Kopenhaver Center Fellows were selected through an application process that included the more than 1000 AEJMC member institutions, with Alvarado chosen from more than 40 applications.

The Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women at Florida International University sponsored its inaugural workshop for 24 Center Fellows at AEJMC. The workshop program was planned in collaboration with the AEJMC's Commission on the Status of Women. It included topics around "Climbing the Ladder: Mentors, Money and Upward Mobility for Junior Faculty Members."

The Kopenhaver Center's mission is to empower women scholars and professionals in the field of communications in order to develop visionaries in both the academy and the industry who will become leaders in society and make a difference in their communities.
