Leeza Gibbons to deliver Buchheit Lecture

Leeza GibbonsUSC broadcast journalism alumna Leeza Gibbons will deliver this year's Buchheit Family Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the Law School Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Gibbons' grits to glitz adventure has taken her all over the world interviewing the biggest stars and news makers while becoming a pop-culture icon herself, but she says it was her training as a storyteller that allowed her to emerge with her heart in tact and her feet on the ground when it all came crashing down. In her lecture, " From Carolina's campus to Hollywood's Walk of Fame: What I learned on my journey from the J-school to the red carpet," she'll share what she calls her southern secret survival skills for playing the fame game.

Gibbons, former host of “Entertainment Tonight” and “Leeza,” currently hosts the syndicated TV news magazine show “America Now” and weekly TV news show “My Generation” on PBS. She created the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, Leeza's Place and Leeza's Care Connection, all of which provide support to patients and caregivers touched by Alzheimer's disease.

The Buchheit Family Lecture Series was created in 2000 to honor the late Phil Buchheit, the former president and chairman of Mid-South Management Co. and the former publisher of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. The series is sponsored by the Buchheit Family Endowment, which provides undergraduate scholarships and graduate and doctoral fellowships to students in USC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
