Super Bowl advertising class likes Cheerios

The Super Bowl may have been a disappointment, but the advertisements kept viewers’ attention. For students in USC's Super Bowl advertising class, the top ad -- and the winner of the coveted Cocky Award -- went to Cheerios "Gracie." The touching ad told the story of a little girl learning she would soon be having a new baby brother (and a new puppy).

Second place was a tie between Wonderful Pistachio (Part 2) and Budweiser's "Puppy Love." Those three were followed by Budweiser's "Hero's Welcome."

More than 100 students and faculty participated in the 11th annual event, which is part of journalism professor Bonnie Drewniany’s “Super Bowl Advertising” class. The students critiqued the national ads that aired during Super Bowl XLVIII for likeability, persuasiveness and brand identity.

In USC’s online survey, voters chose Budweiser "Puppy Love" as the winner, followed by Coca-Cola "America the Beautiful" and Cheerios "Gracie."
