While working as editor of his high school yearbook, Konkle found
a niche in journalism education that has served him well for many
decades. After graduation from Ball State University (advertising/public
relations and education), he taught high school journalism and advised
student publications in Fort Wayne, Ind. before serving three years
as Director of Communications at the Greater Columbia (S.C.) Chamber
of Commerce.
Konkle joined USC’s College of Journalism faculty
in 1985, primarily teaching public relations courses and directing
the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association (SCSPA) and the Carolina
Journalism Institute (CJI). In 2002, he stepped down as director
of SCSPA to concentrate on scholastic journalism history research.Currently,
he primarily teaches courses in the j&mc school’s Visual
Communications Sequence and continues multiple efforts on behalf
of high school journalism. |
